Latest Splash at Snips/Edibles

I'm going to give the splashes another go this summer. I backburnered them last year once I had other projects come in. This is Edibles in Irvington. They will be serving fresh juice and smoothies in their market very soon.

Black Magic

I have so few photos of my black cats. You can't photograph a black cat; you can only hope for a black cat lighting situation. This is Sheila, aka Sissypants.

Reconditioned Painting

11" x 14"

About a month ago I pulled out this old, really dufus panel, and 'augmented' it up into something rather interesting. I have no 'before' pic, but this was a complete throwaway. This reconditioning of discards is yet another series I've been comtemplating. These are not reworked or painted over. It's more of a calculated or even callous "what good can happen to this piece of shit?"

New American Paintings

Mount G, 10" x 10" , oil on wood
In August, be sure to browse your art magazine rack for New American Paintings (No. 83). I'll be in it, courtesy of my "Mount" series.

Town Hall Meeting

Alcove is pleased to present

Town Hall Meeting is an exhibition of works by 9 artist who were born and/or raised in the Midwest and have migrated to New York for the sake of art. The premise of this gathering of works is rooted in process, not only through medium, but also through the constant ongoing procession of choices made to stay beholding to a dream and an ideal. The selection of artwork is nonpartisan to this fact. The artists are devoted to their intuitions, sensibilities, and concerns (or lack thereof); they are relentless and willful with their execution. They are diverse in media and vision, using the strength of subjectivity, suggestion & knowledge to their advantage. This town hall meeting is not a political arena. I do not want to burden the artwork or the artist's history with politics. The curation behind this forum neither embraces or despises the stereotypes of Midwest America (or it's eastern edge), nor is there intent to unveil or measure ignorance or intellect amongst the dialogues of the works, the viewers, or it's critics (as politics can). My intent is only to bring these artists, along with their labors and diversities, to their roots.

Be sure to add this show to your First Friday rounds in May, or make it your evening. For me, this is a nice look backwards and forwards, and I suppose sidelong as well. I have known some of these artists from their days in Indianapolis, and my college professor, Steve Mannheimer, has written a wonderful introduction for the book.

Paul Wackers II

Hourglass

An Object in its Natural Environment

Alchemist Garden

Life Support

Still Life

More paintings by Paul Wackers, enjoy. I had amazing link-luck in finding Paul, resulting from my first link click at each stop, in the following stream: Henri Art Magazine to Paul Corio's No Hassle at the Castle to Brion Nuda Rosch's Hallway Bathroom Projects (now called Hallway Projects) to Paul Wackers' site. I think there's more goodies in that stream.

Paul Wackers

Pretty wonderful, eh? Now go hit Paul's web site because these are from his archive. I was unable to download from the current work section, but it's very exciting.
