Dewclaw Inaugural Exhibition*

I'm calling my new work and show space Dewclaw. The first show will open next Friday, Dec. 2. There is a lot going on that night around town, so we are also having a preview opening on Wednesday, Nov. 30. 5-9 pm each night. I'm excited to finally show this first group of Lane Markers together and in subdued light.

This space still feels like a chapel. It will be interesting to see if this holds when other work is in there. For now, it's so perfect for this group of work, I could cry.

If you're around for either of these nights, please stop by. Dewclaw is part of the newly opened South Studios at the Complex. We are a few doors south of Wug Laku's area in the Circle City Industrial Complex. 1124 Brookside Ave. I currently plan to have the space open on Saturdays 1-4 pm and by appointment.

Awesome, Carla. Really.

And I love the invitation.

I truly wish I could be there.

Thanks. I'll try to capture the ambiance via video. Others have noticed the cool vibe in this room. I scored magic on this space, that's what my gut says. It's located behind the toilets :-o

I may have to do "Swivel Chair Gallery" for one night. One work on each wall (I think by four different artists), one swivel chair, one person in room per viewing.

Toilets nearby always good.

Swivel Chair Gallery. Nice.

Fabulous ideas Carla, I love the invite too. There is nothing more important than having a toilet near your studio, mine is behind the toilet and before the laundry room (with it's big dirty ole sinks). Ideal.

Nomi Lubin said...

Ha -- NOTHING more important than a toilet nearby. But it's kinda true...

Almost.

Elaine Mari said...

yes Nomi, some things are just as important, but nothing more important. Well "nothing" may be an exaggeration .. but suitable for emphasis though.

Just think, no toilet except in the next building, or even down the hall. Where would you wash your brushes or comb your hair and apply your makeup for all those visitors popping in in five minutes to buy your work?

Ahhh, "toilet" as in bathroom with sink AND toilet. Ok. I was thinking just the actual toilet and...um, hm. I probably shouldn't finish that sentence. Kind of gross. Plus, my "solution" doesn't work too well without a sink nearby anyway...ahem.

Oh! Wait. Is this a Canadian/British vs American thing? Here, especially maybe in the northeast(?), I really only hear much older people call the entire bathroom the "toilet," and it's slightly crude. But...maybe in Canada it's just another word for "bathroom." Or maybe you don't call it a bathroom at all...(Sorry, Carla. Though this is really all your fault.)

Nomi, I am older. I believe we do usually say bathroom in polite Canadian company (not that I spend much time there) . I'm also from Newfoundland and we speak a different English from the rest of Canada but I'm not sure if it's oldness or Newfoundlandness that causes my crudeness.

Hey, I said "much older"! I know your superpower is looking way younger than you are, but still. Actually, at first, I wrote "two generations" older, and that's actually accurate, but then I changed it.

Anyway, I shall attempt to make this my toilet comment for a while.

Elaine Mari said...

OK no more toilet comments. thanks for the compliment, but as Gloria Steinem says, this is what 61 looks like.:) well one of the ways any ole how. Sorry Carla, I'll stop now.

what happened to my comment?

I think I pointed out that I usually don't refer to the bathroom as the toilet (I was probably trying to emphasize the crudeness of the location in juxt with my little "chapel"). and then said that "I probably will not do so again...."

Really though, the toilful torrent of toilet talk could have been much much worse. That is not a challenge.

"I was probably trying to emphasize the crudeness of the location in juxt with my little 'chapel'"

Yes. That's what I originally thought.

Elaine Mari said...

That's what I thought too but the "toilful torrent of toilet talk" came unbidden from my keyboard;)

Nomi Lubin said...

Yeah, my torrent of toilet talk was hardly toilful!

Ok, maybe a little bit...
